Diversified Power

Diversified Power does not repair aircraft. It supplies, rents, tests, calibrates and repairs the tools aircraft technicians rely on to do their work. From hydraulic power units and aircraft jacks to torque tools and lifting equipment, the company helps Canadian aviation and industrial customers keep critical support equipment ready when maintenance begins. Much of this equipment comes from manufacturers in Europe or the United States, leaving Canadian operators with limited local service once it enters operation.

Diversified Power has built its business around closing that gap. Combining equipment sales, rentals, repair, calibration, testing and nationwide field service, it supports operators while providing international manufacturers with Canadian technical expertise and ongoing product support. As President David Digings says, “The goal is to ensure customers always have the right tool, in the right place and in the right state when they want to use it.”

Meeting Customers Where the Work Happens

Founded in 1953, Diversified Power built its reputation servicing hydraulic equipment across industrial and automotive applications before David Digings acquired the family business in 2020 and expanded its aviation focus. Today, more than half of its business supports commercial operators, maintenance organizations and government agencies through facilities in Vaughan and Hamilton and mobile teams working across Canada.

Rather than leading with a catalogue of services, Diversified Power follows what Digings describes as a “reverse engineered service” approach. The team begins by understanding what equipment a customer operates, how it is currently maintained and where service gaps exist before determining how it can provide support. That process often expands from solving one repair challenge into supporting aircraft jacks, hydraulic and ground power units, torque tools, fall-arrest equipment and other specialized maintenance tooling.

Transporting heavy equipment across the country is often expensive and disruptive. Instead, Diversified Power dispatches cross-trained technicians with portable testing equipment directly to customer sites, reducing freight, limiting downtime and returning equipment to service more efficiently. Most work is completed in-house under its ISO 9001:2015 quality management system, strengthening consistency across increasingly complex equipment.

Solving Complex Equipment Challenges

Many operators continue to rely on specialized equipment that has been in service for years. Technical documentation may be limited, replacement parts difficult to source and manufacturer support unavailable. Diversified Power regularly works through those challenges by diagnosing equipment from first principles and developing practical repair solutions.

  • The goal is to ensure customers always have the right tool, in the right place and in the right state when they want to use it.

Customers also bring equipment purchased from manufacturers in Europe or the United States that have no established Canadian service network. Diversified Power often works backwards from the customer’s immediate repair requirement, resolving the technical issue first before developing relationships with the original manufacturer. Those relationships frequently evolve into authorized Canadian sales, service and support partnerships that benefit both operators and equipment vendors.

Building Reliability through Long-Term Partnerships

Many customer relationships begin with an urgent service request. One operator contacted Diversified Power after a hydraulic power unit failed in Western Canada. The team reached the site within days, diagnosed the problem onsite and later completed the major repair at its facility before establishing an ongoing preventative maintenance relationship that also connected the company with the equipment manufacturer.

Another customer engaged Diversified Power to perform annual testing on aircraft jacks across Canada. Working together over several years, the organizations improved preventative maintenance practices, increased inspection pass rates and reduced downtime. Better maintained equipment also helped extend asset life, reinforcing Diversified Power’s goal of keeping the right tool, in the right place and in the right state.

Driven by customer demand, the company is working toward a Western Canadian presence while exploring opportunities in the United States. By combining equipment supply, in-house technical expertise, calibration, repair and nationwide field service, Diversified Power continues to make specialized aviation and industrial tooling safer, more reliable and easier to maintain wherever customers operate.
