Significance is an Economically Disadvantaged Woman-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB) that provides expertise to federal government agencies, working as a prime contractor as well as with teaming partners to implement innovative and cost-effective solutions. Since being founded by Mary Ahern-Snyder in 2014, Significance has focused on people and relationships to hire and retain the top talent necessary to exceed clients’ expectations. “Our core capabilities focus on the support needed by our federal clients, including business systems implementations/ migrations, financial management, and audit readiness and organizational transformation. We’re also aggressively developing capabilities in emerging technologies such as cyber security and decision support,” states Ms. Ahern- Snyder, Significance’s President. “We have built these capabilities in large part by the experts we’ve been able to recruit who appreciate our collaborative, open culture.”

Significance is trusted by civilian government agencies and every branch of the Department of Defense (DoD) to bring significant value to help execute their missions. The company has particularly deep experience in federal financial management, including the implementation and support of ERP systems such as DAI, Navy ERP, and GFEBS. Audit readiness, asset management, and PPBEA (Planning, programming, budgeting, execution, and assessment process support) are other areas where Significance provides deep expertise.

As new federal requirements are implemented, Significance continues to evolve to keep up with demand. For example, the Defense Acquisitions Initiative (DAI) has become recognized as a viable solution for government agencies to meet their auditability goals. As a result, there has been an increased emphasis on the standardization of business processes and reduction of manual processes, both of which contribute to a clean audit.
By implementing DAI (and other modern ERP Systems), government agencies will be able to further streamline their processes and enable granular transparency of taxpayer dollars. Significance has been instrumental in implementing and supporting DAI and other ERPs that help achieve the goals of better financial management practices, increased efficiency and oversight, and ultimately, a clean audit. NAVFAC, one of the company’s first and largest clients, had a difficult challenge with respect to the Congressional mandate for a clean financial statement audit – the lack of an accurate inventory of the Navy’s real property assets. With Significance’s assistance, NAVFAC was able to downgrade the material weakness over Real Property – Buildings and Structures and Real Property – Utilities within an accelerated timeline. Significance helped NAVFAC plan, train, and execute the physical inventory for over 150,000 real property assets, as well as implement internal controls to monitor the effectiveness of the inventory going forward. The downgrade was a major milestone for the DoD, DON, and NAVFAC in pursuit of their audit readiness goals.

With a focus on expanding the company’s capabilities to better support the business needs of their clients, Significance continues to focus on being lockstep with mission needs and priorities. “We are proud to support the warfighters’ mission by enabling effective business processes that support critical operations today while also addressing the challenges of tomorrow,” adds Ms. Ahern-Snyder. One area that is particularly important for Significance is the development and continuity of productive partnerships with partner companies, including KPMG, Deloitte, ManTech, Chartis Federal, Tripoint Solutions, and Focus Consulting, among others. Their ability to work in close collaboration with these companies to combine their talents and be a “force multiplier” has driven their reputation as a trusted partner. The company continues to build its partnerships as it proves its value and expertise. In a recent example, Significance has partnered with Huron Consulting to support the Department of Energy in an Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) engagement that represents a new government client and capability for the company.

As the company looks ahead and continues to build out its capabilities, leadership is focused on expanding its footprint in the DoD as well as finding clients whose business challenges align with Significance’s capabilities. They look forward to continuing to demonstrate their value through a consistent focus on strong relationships, subject matter expertise, innovative solutions, and engendering trust through honesty and collaboration. Through these efforts, they are committed to being a federal consulting partner of significance.
